Dynamo LED Displays built a three-sided 2mm pixel pitch LED wall, three faces of 3 m by 2.5 m and 22.5 m² in total, at Aquifer Film Studio in east London for a BT Sport feature aired during its UEFA Champions League coverage, with dancers performing inside the wall on an interactive LED floor supplied by the producers.

The brief: dancers inside the match
The production wanted performers to appear inside Champions League footage rather than in front of it, so the set had to wrap the dancers on three sides with the camera working from the open fourth side. That is a filming set-up rather than a stage backdrop: the wall is lit for camera, the pitch has to survive close framing, and the surface has to take a day of performers moving against it.
What Dynamo installed
Three faces of 2mm LED with right-angle corners
Each face is 3 m wide by 2.5 m high, built from 2mm DEX Series rental tiles and meeting at two right-angle corners, so the footage runs from one face to the next without a dark join. At 2mm the wall holds up when the camera pushes in on a performer standing a metre from it, which is the same reason 2mm sits at the fine end of our virtual production LED screen hire range.
GOB resin for contrast and protection
The DEX tiles carry a GOB resin layer over the LEDs. On a film set it does two jobs: it protects the diodes from performers, props and camera kit moving in a tight space, and it deepens the blacks and evens the colour balance, which shows on camera as cleaner contrast between the performer and the footage behind them.
The interactive LED floor
The floor was supplied by the show’s producers and reacted to the dancers’ moves, so the wall and floor read as one space in the edit. Dynamo’s own LED floor hire kit covers the same role where a production wants floor and walls from one supplier, and the LED dance floor for the Shygirl thicc video shows the floor on its own as the set.
XR, or not quite
Extended reality (XR) production extends the virtual set beyond the edge of the LED wall in the camera feed, using camera tracking. This shoot did not need that: the wall filled the frame. The same 2mm rental kit is used for tracked XR work, as at the Brook Sixth Form XR stage.

The figures below are from the DRE Series datasheet, the rental range Dynamo now uses for studio and virtual production hire. All DRE cabinets are 496 × 496 mm, 9.2 kg, with a 1,920 to 3,840 Hz refresh rate for camera work.

What is a three-sided LED wall?
A three-sided LED wall is three LED faces joined at right angles to form an open box, so a performer inside is surrounded by content on the left, back and right while the camera shoots from the open side. The BT Sport wall used three faces of 3 m by 2.5 m at 2mm pitch, 22.5 m² in total, with an LED floor completing the space.
Which pixel pitch suits an LED wall for filming?
It depends on how close the camera gets to the wall. For performers a metre or two in front, 1.9mm to 2mm keeps the LED structure invisible on camera; product close-ups go finer, to 1.5mm, and wide shots can use 2.6mm. Refresh rate matters as much as pitch: 1,920 Hz or more avoids banding and rolling on camera.
Can an LED hire wall have right-angle corners?
Yes. Rental cabinets are built so two faces meet edge to edge at 90 degrees with no dark seam, and the processor maps the content across the corner as one canvas. Corner joins need a rigid frame and careful alignment on the day, which is why a three-sided build is rigged and commissioned by the LED crew rather than the set builders.
Is a three-sided LED wall the same as XR production?
Not necessarily. XR uses camera tracking to extend the virtual scene beyond the edge of the LED wall in the broadcast feed. The BT Sport shoot filled the frame with the wall itself, so no tracking or set extension was needed. The same 2mm rental kit is used for tracked XR work when a production wants it.
What does GOB resin do on a film-set LED wall?
GOB (glue on board) is a resin layer over the LEDs. On set it protects the diodes from performers, props and camera kit in a tight space, and it deepens the blacks and evens the colour balance so the contrast between performer and background is cleaner on camera. It also makes the tiles easier to wipe down between takes.
