The brief: a stand back wall that delegates could read up close
The HFMA annual conference brings NHS finance directors and their teams to one hotel for three days of sessions and an exhibition. Stands are small and delegates walk past within a metre or two, so a screen has to carry small text, figures and faces without visible pixels. Liaison Group wanted its back wall to show savings delivered for the NHS alongside interviews recorded on the day, with a sharp enough picture that the stand read as a broadcast set rather than a trade show booth.
What Dynamo supplied
A 4 m x 3 m wall at 1.2 mm pitch
The wall was built from DRE Series rental cabinets at 1.2 mm pixel pitch, the smallest pixel pitch in Dynamo’s hire fleet. Most conference hire walls sit between 2.6 mm and 3.9 mm, which is fine from across a hall but shows individual pixels at arm’s length. At 1.2 mm the pixel structure disappears at under a metre, so interview footage and body text held up for delegates standing at the counter. 3,072 x 2,304 pixels from 48 cabinets
Each DRE 1.2 mm cabinet is 496 x 496 mm and carries 384 x 384 pixels. A 4 m x 3 m wall is eight cabinets wide and six high, 3.97 m x 2.98 m, which gives 3,072 x 2,304 pixels, more than a 4K broadcast frame. Resolution on LED is always counted from the cabinets rather than divided from the overall size, which is why the figures are quoted this way.
Rental cabinets built for a hotel exhibition
DRE cabinets are die-cast aluminium with quick-lock connections, so the wall went up and came down inside the venue’s tight build and breakdown windows without specialist tools. The 496 mm cabinet also keeps the wall light enough for a ground-stacked frame on a hotel exhibition floor. The same cabinets fit beMatrix and Aluvision stand frames when an exhibitor wants the LED built into the structure, as on the Coveya exhibition stands.
Content filmed and played on the same day
Liaison Group’s team filmed short interviews with delegates during the conference and played them back on the wall between branded graphics. Any LED wall driven by a video processor will take a new file or a live camera feed at short notice, which is what makes a conference stand screen more useful than printed graphics: the content changed through the event as the interviews were recorded.

Planning an LED video wall hire for a conference stand
Match the pitch to the viewing distance
Work out how close the nearest delegate will stand. At a counter or a seated interview area that is often under two metres, which points to 1.2 mm to 1.93 mm. Size the wall in cabinets
A DRE wall is a multiple of 496 mm in each direction, so 4 m x 3 m becomes 3.97 m x 2.98 m. Agree the cabinet grid with the stand builder before the graphics are printed so that the surround fits the real screen size rather than a round number.
Check power, access and build time with the venue
A hotel conference floor usually has a short overnight build window, limited lift access and 13 A or 16 A power points rather than a three-phase supply. How is the resolution of a hired LED wall worked out?
From the cabinet count. Each DRE 1.2 mm cabinet carries 384 x 384 pixels, so eight cabinets across and six up give 3,072 x 2,304 pixels. Dividing the overall width by the pitch gives a misleading figure on any wall that is not an exact multiple of the cabinet size.

What does Dynamo need from the venue for a conference LED wall?
The stand position and size, the floor loading or rigging options, the power available at the stand and the build and breakdown times. Hotel exhibition floors usually offer standard 13 A or 16 A outlets and limited lift access, which is fine for a wall of this size as long as it is known in advance and the cabinets arrive in the right cases.
