Dynamo LED Displays hired and installed a 7 m × 3 m DRE Series LED screen at 2mm pixel pitch as the stage backdrop for the Usyk Foundation Business and Charity Gala Dinner at The Dorchester, London, on 18 July 2025, and ran the audio, lighting and content control for the evening, which raised money to house displaced Ukrainian families.

The brief: one screen for speeches, music and a live auction
The gala packed a lot into one ballroom evening: speeches from the stage, a performance by the Ukrainian singer Nadia Dorofeeva, a live string orchestra, a live art auction and charity auctions of Usyk’s championship belt and fight-worn gloves, with footballer Andriy Shevchenko among the guests. The organisers needed a single backdrop that could carry sponsor artwork, the fundraising appeal with its QR code, live camera close-ups and video, and look right on the official photographs. Dynamo supplied the screen from its LED screen hire fleet and ran the technical side of the room.
What Dynamo supplied
A 7 m × 3 m DRE Series screen at 2mm
The screen was built from DRE Series rental cabinets to 7 m wide and 3 m high, filling the back of the stage from the orchestra to the lighting bar. At 2mm pixel pitch the guests at the front tables and the photographers’ long lenses saw a continuous picture rather than a grid, which matters when the content is a close-up of a brush on canvas or a face on camera. Resin-protected cabinets for a ballroom build
DRE Series cabinets have a resin-coated LED face, which protects the diodes from knocks during a fast build in a hotel ballroom and makes the surface easy to clean. The cabinets are 496 × 496 mm and 9.2 kg, with front service so the screen can sit tight against the back wall of the stage; the same resin construction is described on our resin-protected LED page.
Processing, audio and lighting from one desk
A video processor and media server fed the screen, so the operator could cut between live camera, pre-recorded montages, sponsor logos and the auction graphics without a visible switch. Dynamo also ran the sound system and the stage lighting, so cues for the orchestra, the auctioneer and the speeches came from one desk and the screen content changed in step with the room.

Dynamo’s rental range for ballroom and awards events is the DRE Series. The figures below are from the DRE Series datasheet. All DRE indoor cabinets are 496 × 496 mm, 9.2 kg, with a 1,920 to 3,840 Hz refresh rate for filming, 6,000:1 contrast and 160° viewing angles.

What size LED screen does a gala dinner stage need?
Size it to the stage and the room. The Dorchester ballroom took a 7 m × 3 m screen, which filled the stage width behind the orchestra and was readable from the back tables. A smaller function room might take 4 m × 2.5 m. The screen is built from cabinets, so the shape follows the stage rather than a television format.
What pixel pitch suits a charity gala or awards dinner?
Fine enough for the front tables and the photographers. At 2mm, as used at the Usyk gala, guests a few metres from the stage see a continuous picture and long-lens photographs do not show the LED grid. Larger ballrooms with the first tables further back can use 2.6mm. Finer pitch costs more per square metre, so it is spent where people sit closest.
Can one LED screen handle live camera, video and auction graphics?
Yes. A video processor and media server take the live camera, pre-recorded montages, sponsor logos and auction graphics as separate inputs and cut or layer them on the screen, so the operator can go from a speech close-up to a lot card without a visible switch. Dynamo supplies the processing with the screen and an operator for the evening.
Does Dynamo supply sound and lighting as well as the screen?
It can. At the Usyk gala Dynamo ran the sound system and stage lighting as well as the screen, so the orchestra, the auctioneer and the speeches were cued from one desk. For a gala that saves the organiser a second supplier and keeps screen content, audio and lighting changes in step with each other.
How is a hired LED screen built in a hotel ballroom?
Cabinets are stacked on a ground-support frame or flown from the venue’s rigging points, cabled, and commissioned before the room is dressed, usually in the morning or the night before. DRE Series cabinets are 496 × 496 mm and 9.2 kg, so a 7 m × 3 m screen goes up in a few hours. Dynamo returns after the event to de-rig and clear the stage.
