Dynamo LED Displays hired five scrolling LED tickers to Hermès for its Brides de Galaxy event in West London: a 2.5mm pixel pitch ticker over the entrance scrolling the words Silky Way, and four more inside scrolling Hermès / Brides de Galaxy above the silk scarf displays. The tickers were 2 m and 4 m long and 250 mm tall.

The brief: signage that moves, for a show about silk
The event was built around the carré, the Hermès silk square, with oversized scarf designs hung as banners in a darkened, colour-washed space. The organisers wanted signage that matched the pace of the room: moving text that led guests from the entrance along the Silky Way and then repeated the event name above the displays, without the glare of a video screen. A scrolling LED ticker does that in a strip 250 mm tall, and because it was a temporary show the tickers came from Dynamo’s LED screen hire stock.

A 2.5mm ticker over the entrance
The entrance ticker sat in the frame above the doorway and scrolled Silky Way in red dot-matrix lettering against the blue-lit wall. At 2.5mm pixel pitch the letters are smooth from a few metres away rather than visibly made of dots, which matters when the ticker is at eye level on arrival. It ran on its own media player so the entrance message could differ from the message inside.
Four tickers above the scarf displays
Inside, four tickers in 2 m and 4 m lengths ran in a line above the hanging scarves, scrolling Hermès / Brides de Galaxy with the brand’s horse-and-carriage mark between repeats. Content and control
Ticker content is text, so the brand team supplied the wording and the colour and Dynamo loaded it before the doors opened. Scrolling speed and brightness were set on site to suit the lighting, which was low and saturated rather than bright retail light. The same approach works for bespoke LED displays at any brand event: agree the words, the typeface and the palette, and the hardware follows.
Current Dynamo options for an event LED ticker
Dynamo builds LED tickers from 80 mm to 960 mm tall, with 94 mm and 250 mm the standard heights, and the LEDs are rated for 100,000 hours. For a 250 mm ticker the current default is the DIT Pro P1.9, with the DX Series as the alternative. The figures below are per 1 m × 250 mm cabinet; DIT Pro figures are from the supplier specification and DX figures from the DX Series datasheet.

What is an LED ticker?
An LED ticker is a long, shallow LED display, typically 80 mm to 960 mm tall and any length from 1 m upwards, that scrolls text or simple graphics. It is built from the same LED modules as a video wall but in a single strip, so it reads as a line of moving type rather than a screen. The Hermès event used five tickers between 2 m and 4 m long.
Can LED tickers be hired for a one-off event?
Yes. The Hermès Brides de Galaxy tickers were hired: Dynamo delivered, mounted and programmed them, ran them for the event and removed them afterwards. Hire suits launches, exhibitions and pop-ups that run for days or weeks, and the client gets the content loaded and tested before the doors open rather than buying and storing hardware.
What pixel pitch does an event LED ticker need?
Match it to the reading distance. Tickers at head height or above a doorway, read from two to four metres, suit 1.9mm to 2.5mm so the letters look solid; the Hermès entrance ticker used 2.5mm. Tickers high on a wall or read from across a hall can use 3.9mm. Finer pitch adds pixels and cost without a visible gain at distance.
How is the text on an LED ticker changed?
Through the media player or content system supplied with the ticker. Text, colour, typeface and scroll speed are set from a laptop or phone, and several tickers can run the same or different messages, as at Hermès where the entrance read Silky Way and the inside tickers read the event name. For live data such as prices, the ticker takes a data feed instead.
Can an LED ticker match a brand colour?
Yes. A full-colour LED ticker can show any RGB colour, so the Hermès tickers ran in the event’s pink and red rather than the amber of a traditional stock ticker. Brightness is then set so the colour holds without glare in the room’s lighting. Single-colour tickers are also available where a classic red or amber dot-matrix look is wanted.
