Dynamo LED Displays fitted out the staff engagement spaces at the Barclaycard headquarters in Hamburg with touchscreen displays: two 55-inch Philips touch monitors in bespoke wall-mounted kiosks, two digital bookcases built around ten 32-inch monitors, and a 75-inch touch monitor in the open-plan Idea Station. Every screen has a built-in PC and is controlled from Canary Wharf over the cloud.

The brief: a corporate floor that staff actually use
Barclaycard asked Dynamo to bring a set of corporate spaces at its Hamburg headquarters into the digital age. The displays had to do three jobs: keep staff informed, invite them to interact, and collect their ideas for improving the business. The rooms also had to stay pleasant places to sit, so the screens were built into furniture and joinery rather than hung as a bank of monitors. Dynamo supplies LCD video walls and touch displays alongside its LED video walls, and this project used LCD throughout because every screen is read from a seat or touched by hand.

Two 55-inch touch kiosks for staff ideas
Two 55-inch Philips touch monitors were housed in bespoke wall-mounted kiosks with integrated sound. The graphics on each kiosk invite staff to stop, read what the business is working on and submit their own ideas for improvement from the touchscreen, so the suggestion box became a screen on the wall rather than a form.
Two digital bookcases with ten 32-inch monitors
The main communal area had been a reading room, and Barclaycard wanted to keep that character. Dynamo built two bespoke digital bookcases: wooden and coloured shelving units with 32-inch Philips monitors set into the bays in a mix of landscape and portrait orientations, ten monitors across the two units, with sound. Books, plants and objects sit in the other bays, so the screens read as part of the furniture.
The Idea Station: a 75-inch touch monitor and a lectern
The main space, known as the Idea Station, is an open-plan area with relaxed seating centred on a 75-inch Philips touch monitor. When nobody is presenting, the screen plays scheduled content. When someone wants to present, they connect their laptop at a bespoke lectern, press one button to switch the source, and control the presentation from the touchscreen itself. A presentation switcher and a control panel were retro-fitted into the lectern so the changeover takes seconds and needs no technician.
Controlled from London, playing in Hamburg
Every monitor has a built-in PC, so there are no media players or cabling runs to a comms room. Content is created and scheduled by the Barclaycard team at Canary Wharf in London and sent to the Hamburg screens over the cloud, which is the same approach Dynamo uses for LED estates through its LED display CMS. A screen in another country is updated from a desk in the UK, and the system reports whether each one is online.
Current Dynamo options for an office engagement space
A project like this today would still use touchscreen LCD where a screen is touched or read from a seat, and would add fine-pitch LED where a wall needs to be seen across a floor or from a reception desk. The LED figures below are per 250 × 250 mm module; DIT Pro figures are from the supplier specification and DX figures from the DX Series datasheet. No prices are given here.

What is a digital bookcase?
A digital bookcase is a shelving unit with monitors built into some of the bays, so screens sit among books, plants and objects instead of hanging on a wall. At Barclaycard Hamburg two bespoke bookcases carry ten 32-inch monitors in landscape and portrait, each with its own built-in PC, so every bay can show different content or all of them can run one campaign.
How do staff present from a laptop on a touchscreen?
The screen plays scheduled content until someone plugs in. A presentation switcher built into the lectern takes the laptop as an input, and a single button changes the source on the big screen. Because the monitor is a touchscreen, the presenter then drives the laptop from the screen itself. When the cable is unplugged the screen returns to its playlist.
Can office screens in another country be controlled from the UK?
Yes. Monitors with built-in PCs, or LED walls with a networked processor, connect to a cloud content management system. The Barclaycard screens in Hamburg are scheduled from Canary Wharf in London, and the same system shows whether each screen is online and what it is playing. The site only needs power and an internet connection.
Should an office engagement space use LCD or LED?
Use touchscreen LCD where people touch the screen or read it from a seat a metre or two away, as in kiosks, meeting spaces and the Barclaycard bookcases. Use fine-pitch LED where a wall must be read across a floor, from a reception desk or by a crowd, because LED builds to any size with no bezels and holds its brightness in a bright atrium.

Yes. Dynamo installed the Barclaycard headquarters project in Hamburg and has supplied LED screens on hire for exhibitions in Germany, with design and content control handled from the UK. Equipment, built kiosks and joinery are prepared in advance and installed on site with the client’s fit-out team.
