The brief: a mall atrium that answers back
Muscat Grand Mall wanted the central atrium to be the reason people visit, not just the route between shops. The brief went beyond a big screen: a tower that could carry national celebrations and brand campaigns, columns that turn the concourse into one scheme, and a layer of interaction so shoppers, and their children, could play with the displays from their phones. The result sits in our custom LED displays portfolio alongside the Lewis Hamilton LED cube.
What Dynamo installed
The four-sided LED tower
The tower is built from 4mm LED on all four faces, each 13.06 m high by 4.608 m wide, 263 m² in total with more than 16.5 million pixels. Four faces are mapped as one canvas, so a globe or a mosaic can wrap the corners rather than repeating on each side. At the base an LED floor surround of 5.6 m by 1.2 m carries the content onto the floor.
Ten LED columns along the concourse

Ten smaller four-sided columns, 4.608 m tall with 1.024 m faces, repeat down the concourse at the same 4mm pitch, so a single scheme runs from the tower to the far shops. Wrapping a structural column in LED on four faces needs right-angle returns at every corner and a clear service route, which is why the same cabinet family was used throughout.
Interactive apps and docking stations

Custom iOS and Android apps and two docking stations either side of the tower connect visitors to the screens. The app carries event notifications, store adverts and discount vouchers; sensors installed around the mall let it work as a live map to any shop; and shoppers can push selfies and social posts to the tower. Camera tracking and phone-as-controller games run on the tower for children and adults. Emergency messages, such as fire evacuation and missing-child alerts, can be sent to every screen and every phone at once.
The outdoor display
Outside, a large 20mm outdoor LED display faces the approach roads, covered in our separate Oman outdoor LED billboard case study. Outdoor pitches are coarser because the viewing distance is tens of metres; the range is set out on our outdoor LED displays page.
Current Dynamo options for atrium towers and columns
The figures below are from the DX Series datasheet, the fixed-install indoor range Dynamo specifies for mall atriums and wrapped columns today. All DX cabinets support right-angle installation and are front serviceable.
| Model | Pixel pitch | Module | Brightness | Cabinet weight | Suited to |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| DX2.9 | 2.9mm | 250 × 250 mm, 84 × 84 px | 800 nits or more | 3.5 kg | Wrapped columns at concourse level |
| DX3.9 | 3.9mm | 250 × 250 mm, 64 × 64 px | 800 nits or more | 6.4 kg | Atrium towers viewed from several floors |
| DX5.9 | 5.9mm | 250 × 250 mm, 42 × 42 px | 600 to 800 nits | 5 kg | High-level faces viewed from a distance |

Mall LED towers and columns: frequently asked questions
How big is the LED tower at Muscat Grand Mall?
Each of the four faces is 13.06 m high by 4.608 m wide, giving 263 m² of 4mm LED and more than 16.5 million pixels across the tower. An LED floor surround of 5.6 m by 1.2 m sits at the base, and ten four-sided LED columns of 4.608 m by 1.024 m per face continue the scheme along the concourse.
Why was a 4mm pixel pitch used for a mall tower?
Atrium towers are seen from across the floor and from upper levels, typically 4 m or more away, so a 4mm pitch reads as a continuous picture while keeping the cost and weight of a 263 m² structure manageable. The columns, which shoppers pass at arm’s length, share the pitch so the whole scheme matches.
How do shoppers interact with the LED displays?
Through custom iOS and Android apps and two docking stations beside the tower. The app carries mall notifications, adverts and vouchers, works as a live map using sensors installed around the mall, and lets shoppers push selfies and social posts to the tower. Camera-tracked and phone-controlled games run on the tower, and emergency alerts can be sent to every screen and phone.
Can an LED display wrap around a column on all four sides?
Yes. The Muscat columns are LED on all four faces, with right-angle returns at each corner so the image turns the corner without a dark seam, and the tower is mapped as a single canvas so content wraps around it. Wrapped columns need a service route for module access and cable management planned before the cladding closes.
Does Dynamo install LED displays in Oman and the Gulf?
Yes. Alongside Muscat Grand Mall and its outdoor display, Dynamo has delivered the Terminal 3 arrivals LED at Dubai International Airport, a curved 1.5mm wall in an Abu Dhabi marketing suite and the RAK Ceramics showroom in Dubai, with a Dubai-based team for installation and UK-based design, processing and remote monitoring.
