Both walls were built, calibrated, run from NovaStar playback hardware and de-rigged within the same day.

The brief: a launch where guests stand close to the screen
ABG Lab launched a cosmetics range on 25 June 2025 with an evening reception at Isabel’s, an intimate venue in Mayfair. The guests were industry influencers and beauty experts, with the brand’s founder, Dr Elina Tester, among them. Tech Events produced the evening and asked Dynamo for two large screens to carry product films, brand graphics and a live social media feed.
Two things shaped the specification. The room is intimate, so guests would stand within a metre or two of the screens with a drink in hand. And the venue trades every day, so the screens had to arrive, go up, run the event and leave within a single day. That pointed to our 1.29 mm hire panels on a freestanding build rather than anything flown.
What Dynamo supplied
Two 4.5 m by 2 m DRE fine-pitch LED walls
Each wall was built from DRE Series P1.29 cabinets, the panel Dynamo markets as its 1.2 mm hire kit. A cabinet is 496 mm square, weighs 9.2 kg and carries 384 by 384 pixels, so a nine-by-four build gives a 4.46 m by 1.98 m surface at 3456 by 1536 pixels. At 1.29 mm the pixel structure is not visible from a normal standing distance, which is the point for a launch where guests lean in to look at product shots and packaging.
The DRE cabinets are front-serviceable, so a module can be swapped or re-seated from the front without pulling the wall apart, and the X-GOB resin finish protects the LEDs from knocks, dust and the odd spilt drink. The DRE Series is also the panel we use for LED screen hire across conferences, exhibitions and camera-critical stages.
Same-day build, calibration and de-rig
The crew arrived on the morning of the event, built both walls freestanding on the venue floor, dressed the edges in black drape and cabled the processing at the back. Once powered, the walls were calibrated so every cabinet matched in brightness and colour, then the client’s content was tested on the real screens. Brightness and white point were set to suit the room lighting rather than left at factory defaults, because a cold, over-bright wall looks wrong beside warm hospitality lighting. When the last guests left, the same crew de-rigged both walls and cleared the venue that evening.
Playback on NovaStar hardware
Content ran from a NovaStar ET4S-G media server into a NovaStar H2 all-in-one video processor, which scaled and split the feed across the two walls and allowed them to show one continuous image when the running order called for it. Dynamo’s operator could adjust brightness, colour and source on the fly during the evening. The playlist mixed product films, branding loops and a live social media feed, all rendered at the walls’ native 3456 by 1536 pixels.
Why a 1.29 mm pitch suits a cosmetics launch
Pixel pitch is the distance between the centres of neighbouring pixels. The finer the pitch, the closer a viewer can stand before the image breaks into dots. A working rule is that the comfortable minimum viewing distance in metres is about the same number as the pitch in millimetres, so 1.29 mm panels hold together from a little over a metre away. For a drinks reception that is the difference between a screen that reads as a printed backdrop and one that reads as a video wall.
Skincare content is unforgiving on colour. Skin tones, product textures and pale packaging show any cast in the whites, so the calibration step and the on-site white point adjustment matter as much as the pitch. Brief the content team on the native resolution
Give the content producer the wall’s pixel size and aspect ratio before anything is designed. A 4.5 m by 2 m wall is 2.25:1, not 16:9, so a standard HD file will either letterbox or stretch. Send a test file to Dynamo a few days ahead so it can be checked on the media server.
Confirm access, power and build time with the venue
A freestanding wall needs a clear route from the loading bay, a level floor, and enough time before guests arrive for the build and calibration. Decide who operates the screens
For a launch with a running order, a Dynamo operator on site can switch sources, adjust brightness as the room lighting changes and deal with any content issue without the organiser noticing. Build that into the hire rather than leaving it to the venue’s AV team.

Work from the nearest viewing distance. A rough rule is that the comfortable minimum distance in metres matches the pitch in millimetres, so a wall guests will stand 1 to 2 m from wants 1.29 mm to 1.93 mm. X-GOB is the glue-on-board finish used on the DRE Series. A transparent resin layer is cast over the LEDs, so the module surface is smooth and can be wiped clean, and the diodes are protected from knocks, dust and spills.
