LED Scoreboards and Sport Perimeter Displays

SKU DYN-IND-HW-69 Category

Dynamo LED Displays designs, supplies and installs LED scoreboards and sport perimeter displays for football clubs, rugby clubs, schools, colleges, leisure centres and athletics venues across the UK. From a compact outdoor scoreboard for a grassroots club pitch through to full stadium-grade perimeter rings and video scoreboards, we build systems that stand up to British weather, read clearly in full daylight, and give your operator a simple, reliable interface on matchday.

Recent project: we installed an LED scoreboard for Eastleigh Football Club, delivering a matchday display built for a professional football environment. It’s one of a growing number of sports installations we’ve delivered where reliability on the day matters as much as the visual impact.

Why choose a Dynamo LED scoreboard

  • Daylight-readable brightness โ€” 5,500โ€“7,500 nits on outdoor cabinets so scores, clocks and graphics stay crisp even in direct sunlight.
  • Weatherproof engineering โ€” IP65 front / IP54 rear as standard on outdoor units, with reinforced cabinets and corrosion-resistant fixings for year-round pitch-side use.
  • True video capability โ€” display animated score graphics, team crests, sponsor adverts, replays and live camera feeds, not just fixed digits.
  • Simple matchday control โ€” operator software runs on a laptop, tablet or phone, with one-touch templates for home/away, timer, period and sponsor rotations.
  • Built to last โ€” commercial-grade SMD LEDs rated for 100,000 hours and front-serviceable modules so maintenance doesn’t mean a crane hire.

Pixel pitch and viewing distance โ€” choosing the right spec

The right pitch depends on how far your furthest spectator sits from the display. As a working rule of thumb for sports venues:

  • P4 / P5 outdoor โ€” school sports fields, small club pitches, indoor sports halls. Sharp from 5 m, readable to roughly 40โ€“50 m.
  • P6 / P8 outdoor โ€” the sweet spot for most non-league and step-2/3 football clubs, rugby clubs and athletics tracks. Clear from 8 m out to 80โ€“100 m.
  • P10 outdoor โ€” large stadium bowls, perimeter rings and long-throw installations where the back row sits 40 m+ from the screen.

We’ll size the screen and pitch against your actual sightlines โ€” not a generic catalogue number โ€” so you pay for resolution spectators can actually see. Have a look at our outdoor LED displays range for the full spec sheet.

What you can show on it

A modern LED scoreboard is really a sports-configured video wall. On a Dynamo system you can run:

  • Live score, match clock, period/half, fouls, possession and penalty counts
  • Team names, crests, sponsor logos and player-of-the-match graphics
  • Full-motion video โ€” replays, highlights, crowd cams and player entrances
  • Rotating sponsor adverts (a genuine matchday revenue line for most clubs)
  • Safety messages, kick-off countdowns, fixture information and community notices on non-match days

For perimeter advertising and pitch-side sponsor rings, see our LED video walls.

Sport perimeter displays

Perimeter rings sit at pitch level and are engineered for the reality of contact sport. Our perimeter cabinets ship with a reinforced mechanical frame, wide horizontal viewing angles (160ยฐ+) so the full stand sees the sponsor message, and a dedicated bounce cushion and soft-mask front material that protects both players and the display when a tackle or ball hits the boards. They run as one continuous advertising canvas with full animation, timed sponsor rotations and broadcast-safe refresh rates.

Where our sports displays are working

  • Football clubs โ€” main scoreboards, perimeter advertising rings and tunnel/entrance displays
  • Rugby union and league clubs โ€” score, clock and sponsor rotation with wide viewing angles for raised stands
  • Athletics and track venues โ€” lap counters, split times and live result graphics
  • Schools, colleges and universities โ€” sports field scoreboards that double as school signage and events displays (see also our LED school signs)
  • Leisure centres and indoor arenas โ€” basketball, netball, five-a-side and multi-sport halls
  • Cricket and bowls clubs โ€” compact outdoor displays for scores, overs and player names

Installation and support

We handle the full installation โ€” structural calcs, groundworks coordination, power and data, mounting frame, commissioning and operator training. Every scoreboard leaves site with a documented handover pack, our operator app installed and configured, and a UK-based support line. Standard warranty is 2 years with extensions available, and spares are held in the UK so a failed module is a next-day fix, not a six-week wait on an overseas shipment.

Frequently asked questions

How much does an LED scoreboard cost?

It depends on size, pixel pitch and whether you want video capability or digits only. A compact grassroots outdoor scoreboard starts at the lower end; a stadium-grade video scoreboard with perimeter rings sits considerably higher. We quote against your venue drawings, sightlines and operator requirements so you’re comparing a real specification, not a brochure number. Send us your pitch dimensions and furthest spectator distance and we’ll come back with a specced proposal.

What’s the lead time from order to installed and commissioned?

Typical lead times are 6โ€“10 weeks for a standard outdoor scoreboard, longer for custom cabinet sizes, bespoke mounting structures or full perimeter rings. If you’re aiming at a season opener, we recommend placing the order at least 12 weeks out to cover structural sign-off, groundworks and a full commissioning window.

How do we control the scoreboard on matchday?

Via our operator software on a laptop, tablet or phone. It runs pre-built templates for your sport, so the scoreboard operator taps “goal โ€” home”, the score updates, the crest animates and the sponsor loop carries on underneath. Video content, sponsor playlists and fixture schedules are pre-loaded, so matchday staff don’t need broadcast-graphics training to run it.

Will it survive a British winter?

Yes. Outdoor cabinets are IP65-rated at the front and IP54 at the rear, sealed against driving rain and tested against temperature ranges from -20ยฐC to +50ยฐC. Power supplies are protected, modules are individually sealed, and we specify corrosion-resistant frames and fixings. Proper annual maintenance keeps a Dynamo scoreboard running comfortably for ten years-plus in a UK outdoor environment.

Can you install it on our existing structure, or do we need new groundworks?

Both are possible. Many clubs mount onto an existing gantry, stand roof or perimeter wall; others need a new freestanding steel structure with foundations. We do a site survey and structural assessment before quoting, so you’ll know up front whether your existing steelwork will take the wind load or whether groundworks are part of the job.
