The brief: replace a manual chart board
Warner’s offices used a manual triangle board to show staff the label’s hottest tracks and artists each week. Names moved up and down the triangle by hand, with the top spot for the strongest current prospect. The brief was a digital version of that board: the same triangle, the same ranking idea, but updated centrally and able to show more than a name on a card. Dynamo took the job through its custom LED displays service, where the shape is set first and the LED is engineered to fit it.
What Dynamo built
Triangular LED modules with 150 mm sides
A triangle cannot be made cleanly from rectangular LED panels, so Dynamo used triangular LED modules, each side 150 mm, at 2.5mm pixel pitch. Tiled point to point they fill the outline exactly, with no stepped edge and no masking. Content is mapped across the modules in the processor so the triangle behaves as one screen with an unusual shape.
Over 1.5 m tall in a wall-mount housing
Each finished display stands over 1.5 m tall. The LED sits inside a housing designed for the job, which carries the power supplies, the receiving card and the audio, and lets each office mount the triangle on a wall without a bespoke frame. Ten identical units were built so that every office received the same display and the same mounting method.
Video first, then audio
The original specification asked for icons and text. During testing the client saw that the 2.5mm triangle could play the artists’ videos, and the brief changed on the spot. Audio followed: each triangle was fitted with a sound bar so the chosen track plays while its video runs on the screen.
One CMS for ten offices in ten time zones
Dynamo supplied a custom content management system so Warner’s headquarters can push updates to a single display or to the whole estate at once. Schedules run either on each display’s local time or on the Warner server time, so a Monday-morning chart update lands at the right hour in Tokyo, London and Los Angeles. Custom LED triangles: frequently asked questions
Can an LED display be made in a triangle shape?
Yes. Standard LED panels are rectangles, so a triangle is built from triangular LED modules instead, tiled point to point until they fill the outline. The result is a true triangle with straight edges, not a rectangle with a mask over it. Dynamo built the ten Warner Music Group triangles this way, using modules with 150 mm sides at 2.5mm pitch.
How big were the Warner Music LED triangles?
Each of the ten displays stands over 1.5 m tall. The LED triangle sits inside a custom housing that carries the electronics and a sound bar and lets the office mount the unit on a wall. All ten units were built to the same design so that every office, from Hamburg to Sydney, received an identical display.
Can a custom LED display play video and sound?
Yes. A shaped LED display is driven by the same processor as a flat screen, so it plays video at full frame rate. The Warner triangles were first specified for icons and text, but tests showed they could play the artists’ videos, and a sound bar was added to each unit so the track plays with its video.
How is content updated on LED displays in different countries?
Through a content management system that reaches every display over the internet. Warner’s headquarters sends an update to one triangle or to all ten at once, and the schedule runs on either the display’s local time or the central server time. That means a weekly chart refresh can appear at the same local hour in every office without anyone on site touching the screen.
How are shaped LED displays mounted on a wall?
Dynamo builds the LED into a housing designed for the shape. The housing holds the modules, the power supplies, the receiving card and any audio, and it has fixing points for a standard wall mount. The office only needs a sound wall and a power and data point; the display arrives as one unit, ready to hang and connect.
